Isolated carpal scaphoid dislocation.

Isolated carpal scaphoid dislocations are rare. Because of this, treatment strategies can be conflicting and vague. The current authors present a case of isolated scaphoid dislocation that was treated initially with closed reduction and percutaneous pinning. Failure of this index treatment necessitated open reduction and internal fixation providing an adequate short-term outcome. Current treatm...

Isolated dislocation of the carpal scaphoid without the presence of an associated fracture or dislocation of the carpal bones

Isolated scaphoid dislocations are extremely rare injuries and are commonly associated with significant ligamentous disruptions. A dorsiflexion-supination force upon the hand consists the commonest mechanism of injury. Different treatment options have been proposed for the management of this uncommon entity, ranging from conservative treatment with closed reduction and casting to a wide range o...

Reconstruction of isolated scaphoid dislocation with carpal dissociation, associated with a carpal anomaly

A case is presented of isolated scaphoid dislocation with carpal dissociation in the presence of a lunato-triquetral coalition. We present the treatment and follow-up of this case. In addition, the literature on scaphoid dislocation and its treatment is reviewed. We emphasize the need to reconstruct the carpal alignment and scapho-lunate linkage.

These include Higgs (1930), two cases; Buzby (1934); Kuth (1939); Wood-Walker (1943); Schlossbach (1954) and Connell & Dyson (1955), all reporting single cases. Russell (1949), in a review of intercarpal dislocations and fracture dislocations reported only one case of dislocation...
